How documentation supports a dispute

A dispute is stronger when it is specific. Documentation helps you explain what you believe is wrong and why.

Examples of useful documentation

  • Account statements showing balances or closure dates
  • Correspondence with a furnisher
  • Identity or address records when personal information looks wrong
  • Police or FTC identity-theft materials when applicable (use official channels)

What documentation is not

Paperwork does not guarantee deletion or a score increase. It supports clearer consumer-controlled communication.
